Torrent de Pareis / Sa Calobra
Torrent de Pareis is a pebble cove at the end of a gorge with rock walls almost 300 metres high – one of Mallorca's most spectacular natural sights. Calm with a southerly wind, wild with a northerly.
THE WIND DECIDES
When is Torrent de Pareis / Sa Calobra at its best?
On Mallorca, the wind decides which beach has calm water. Torrent de Pareis / Sa Calobra opens to the north and northwest.
Checking where the wind's coming from today …
calm rather choppy side-on
Rule of thumb based on how the cove faces. On site, flags and lifeguards have the final word.
„I photographed the rock walls. In the photo they look like a wall. In real life they're more like three cathedrals.“

What to expect at Torrent de Pareis / Sa Calobra
Even the drive is an experience: the serpentine road to Sa Calobra winds down to the sea in hairpin bends. From the car park you walk through lit pedestrian tunnels – and then you're standing at the mouth of the gorge.
The beach is made of pebbles and the water is very clear. At midday lots of coaches and boats arrive; early or late it's much quieter.
The cove opens to the north. When the Tramuntana blows there's surf; with a southerly wind it's usually calm. The gorge hike itself is only for experienced hikers, when the stream bed is dry and ideally with a guide.
