WOW BEACH GUIDE · WESTEN

Cala Deià

Cala Deià is a small pebble cove below the artists' village of Deià on the west coast: crystal-clear water, fishermen's huts and two restaurants right by the sea. Calm with southerly and easterly winds, unpleasant with a northerly.

THE WIND DECIDES

When is Cala Deià at its best?

On Mallorca, the wind decides which beach has calm water. Cala Deià opens to the northwest.

calm rather choppy side-on

Rule of thumb based on how the cove faces. On site, flags and lifeguards have the final word.

„I lay down on a rock. It wasn't comfortable. The view more than made up for it.“

What to expect at Cala Deià

Pebbles and rocks below, the Tramuntana mountains above, and in between some of the clearest water on the island. Cala Deià is small – around 70 metres – and that's exactly what makes it so charming.

Above the cove sits the restaurant Ca's Patró March, known as a filming location for the BBC series "The Night Manager". If you want to eat there, book ahead.

The cove opens to the northwest. With a Tramuntana or Mestral it gets rough; with wind from the south and east it's usually calm. Water shoes and something to sit on make the day a lot more comfortable.
