July and August are wonderful on Mallorca. Just not only for you. Anyone booking a finca can often be more flexible with their travel dates than expected – and that is where the real luxury lies.
Because a finca works differently than a beach hotel: You have your own pool, your own shade, and no fight for sun loungers. This shifts the question from “When is it hottest?” to “When is it at its best?”. Here is our month-by-month overview.
The quick answer
- For pool and sea without the crowds: Late May to June and September.
- For families during school holidays: July and August – but book early then.
- For hiking, cycling, and villages: April, May, and October.
- For peace, quiet, and the almond blossom: Late January to February.
Spring (March to May): Green, mild, and surprisingly empty
Mallorca is blooming. The fields are green, temperatures are pleasant, and the island largely belongs to cyclists and hikers. It is still fresh for a beach holiday in the sea in March and April, but things slowly get serious in May. Late spring is ideal for a finca with a pool: sun on the terrace during the day, fireplace or sweater in the evening. For our houses, spring and the Easter holidays are often significantly cheaper than the high season.
Early summer (June): Our secret favorite
Long days, warm weather, the sea becomes suitable for swimming, and the big wave of summer vacationers hasn't arrived yet. Everything just comes together in June: pool in the morning, bay in the afternoon, dinner outside until late. Those who don't have school-age children should take a very close look at June.
High summer (July and August): Hot, busy, beautiful
Mallorca is at its best now – and everyone knows it. It’s hot, the beaches are well-frequented, and restaurants are booked out in the evenings. For families tied to school holidays, however, there is often no way around it. That is exactly when a finca plays to its strengths: private pool instead of an overcrowded beach, siesta in the shade instead of the midday sun on the promenade, barbecue instead of a restaurant reservation.
Two tips for the summer: book early – large fincas for twelve or more people are often snapped up months in advance – and make sure there is air conditioning in the bedrooms. And those who don't feel like dealing with busy supermarkets can have the fridge filled via the WOW MART.
Late summer (September): The sea is at its warmest
For many Mallorca connoisseurs, September is the best month. The sea has warmed up all summer long, the holidays are over, and the island catches its breath. Ideal for couples, groups of friends, and families with pre-school children. Prices and crowds drop noticeably, and the evenings remain long and warm.
Autumn (October and November): Golden light, empty bays
You can still swim on many days in October, the landscape turns greener again, and the markets are full of autumn fruits. Occasionally there are heavy rain showers, but it is usually quickly beautiful again afterward. For groups that primarily want to be together, eat well, and explore the island, autumn is a very good time for a finca – often at significantly lower prices.
Winter (December to February): Mallorca for insiders
Not a beach holiday, but a completely different Mallorca: quiet villages, clear air, hiking days in the Tramuntana, and from late January the almond blossom, when parts of the island look like it has snowed. Those renting a finca in winter should look for heating or a fireplace. Some houses only rent out upon request during this time.
What does a finca cost depending on the season?
For our fincas, prices range from approx. 20 to around 125 € per person per night, depending on the house and the season. The highest prices apply in July and August, the cheapest in the low season. Many houses have a minimum stay of 7 nights during the season. The exact prices for each period can be found on every finca page, and the overview is in our guide How much does a finca on Mallorca cost?
Our conclusion
Those who are flexible with their time should choose June or September. Those tied to school holidays should book early and enjoy their own pool. And those who want to experience Mallorca in a completely different way should come for the almond blossom.
