In short: It is about 60 to 65 kilometers from Palma Airport to Pollença and Port de Pollença, taking approximately 45 to 50 minutes by car via the Ma-13 highway. The most relaxed way to travel is with a pre-booked transfer or rental car; taxis cost roughly 80 to 120 euros, while buses are cheaper but take longer and sometimes require a transfer.
The best moment of a journey is when it is over. Drop your bags, kick off your shoes, first look at the pool. Everything before that is logistics: baggage carousel, rental car counter, GPS, supermarket. The good news: the north of Mallorca is closer to the airport than many think. And with a little preparation, the journey won’t feel like a workday, but like the prelude to your holiday.
How far is it from Palma Airport to the north?
Son Sant Joan Airport is located south of the island's capital. From there, the Ma-13 highway runs across the island towards Inca and Alcúdia. For most houses in the north, the following applies:
| Destination | Distance (approx.) | Travel time by car (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Pollença | 60 km | 45–50 minutes |
| Port de Pollença | 65 km | 50 minutes |
| Cala Sant Vicenç | 65 km | 50–55 minutes |
| Alcúdia | 60 km | 45–50 minutes |
These values assume no traffic. In July and August and on Saturdays, the classic changeover day, you should add a quarter of an hour. The last few kilometers to a finca often lead along narrow country roads between dry-stone walls. That is lovely, but not a place for rushing.
The four ways to your finca compared
Rental car: most flexible
For most fincas in the hinterland of Pollença, you will need a car anyway: for the beach, the market, and dinner in town. If you pick up your car directly at the airport, you can drive to the finca without any detours. For groups, it is worth booking early, as seven-seaters and station wagons are in short supply during the high season. For what you should look out for regarding insurance, fuel policy, and parking, check our rental car tips for finca holidays.
Taxi: spontaneous, but not cheap
Taxis are available at the airport around the clock. Transfer portals quote roughly 80 to 120 euros for the trip to Port de Pollença, depending on the time of day, vehicle size, and luggage. This is a convenient solution for four people with standard luggage. For eight people with golf bags, strollers, and coolers, it quickly turns into a puzzle of two cars.
Pre-booked transfer: fixed price for groups
With a transfer, the driver waits with a name sign in the arrivals hall, the price is fixed in advance, and there are vehicles of every size, from passenger cars to minibuses. Especially for families and groups, this is often the most relaxed option: no one has to drive after the flight, and everyone arrives at the same time. If requested, the WOW CONCIERGE can organize the transfer for you, tailored to your flight times and group size.
Bus: cheap, with a bit of patience
The public TIB bus network connects the airport with the north. The airport line A32 runs on average about every 50 minutes via Inca and Sa Pobla to the Bay of Alcúdia as far as Can Picafort. To get to Pollença and Port de Pollença, you usually have to transfer, for example via Palma and line 301. Schedules change depending on the season, so check them on the TIB website shortly before your trip. For the last few kilometers to the finca, you will still need a taxi.
Which option suits you?
- Couple or small family, finca in the hinterland: Rental car from the airport.
- Family with a toddler: Transfer with child seats, rental car if needed only from the next day.
- Group of eight or more: Transfer by minibus, plus one or two rental cars for the week.
- House in the middle of town: Transfer or taxi; on-site, walking, cycling, and the bus are sufficient. You can find suitable houses under Finca Mallorca without a rental car.
Arriving without having to shop first
The classic mistake on arrival day: you land in the afternoon, drive to the finca, unpack, and then realize there is neither water nor coffee in the house. So back in the car, search for a supermarket, search for a parking space, shopping cart full of things you can't find in Spanish. This can be avoided. Via the WOW MART, you can pre-order drinks, breakfast, fruit, and baby supplies and have your shopping delivered to the finca. If you are traveling as a group, you can fill your cart together in the WOW PLANER, and the group kitty will calculate afterwards who paid for what. What belongs in the fridge for the first evening can be found in our fridge checklist for the first night.
By the way, Gassi once planned the perfect arrival. Flight at 6:10 AM, rental car at 9:00 AM, market in Pollença at 10:00 AM, pool at 11:00 AM. The plan lasted exactly eight minutes, specifically until the question of who actually had the key to the roof box. Since then, he books a transfer and has the fridge filled beforehand.

Checklist for arrival day
- Send flight details and arrival time to us so that key handover and transfer match
- Book child seats with the rental car or transfer
- Save the address of the finca offline on your phone; cell reception is not good everywhere in the countryside
- Order shopping for the first 24 hours in advance
- If landing late: plan for snacks and water for the car
- Have cash on hand for parking meters and small shops
And if something goes wrong on the way?
Flight delayed, rental car not there, GPS leading onto a dirt road: You can reach WOW FINCA around the clock. And once you have arrived, there is the red telephone in every finca. There is only one number, ours. All houses in the north can be found under Finca in the North of Mallorca or in the overview of all WOW FINCAS.
