Gassi understood children. That was around 10:15 a.m. He had a blackboard, a pointer, and three categories: baby, toddler, older child. The baby needs help. The toddler needs supervision. The older child needs Wi-Fi. Elegant. Almost suspiciously elegant. His theory held up until 10:23 a.m. Then several children arrived at once.

What happened next is the most honest guide to a vacation with children in Mallorca that we know. Below, you will also find our favorite beaches and excursions for families – completely blackboard-free.

Gassi, a bald man with black glasses and a white shirt, laughing next to a large teaching board in a finca in Mallorca. With a pointer, he explains three supposedly clear categories: baby, toddler, and older child. The board lists typical characteristics and needs of the children. Gassi still seems decidedly convinced of his theory.

Gassi’s field study: How children tick on vacation

At 10:27 a.m., the ball everyone had wanted suddenly belonged to no one. At 10:31 a.m., a child was hungry, but not for the food they had demanded five minutes earlier. At 10:34 a.m., a dripping-wet child stood in the kitchen and denied any connection to the pool. Gassi looked at his board. The problem with children is not that they are unpredictable. The problem is that they know their own rules very precisely and generally do not share them with adults.

Gassi sits in the middle of a child-caused mess at a finca in Mallorca, desperately covering his ears. Several laughing children are climbing all over him, splashing him with water, and playing with a water gun and toys. Next to him, a board explains groups of children from three kids upwards. Gassi's orderly theory has since become practical field research.

Parents know these rules astonishingly well anyway. They know that a lost pacifier can be more urgent than a lost passport. That a green cup is completely unacceptable if the blue one was there yesterday. That seven free balls become worthless the moment an eighth one is held by another child. They also know that “I’m not tired” are often the last words before a total physical collapse on a beanbag. And they go along with it all. They look for the pacifier. They fetch the blue cup. They watch one more time for the 38th jump into the pool. Not because they are rational. But because they love these little lunatics. That is the crucial hint.

Gassi sits desperately at a table in front of a finca and is on the phone using an old red telephone. Behind him, several children are rampaging at the pool among water guns, a flamingo, a ball, and toys. In front of him are crumpled tissues and a long to-do list; his mug says 'Help. I need a vacation from my vacation.' Gassi is clearly calling for reinforcements.

However, adults occasionally have their own interests when booking a finca in Mallorca. Reading a book. Finishing a glass of wine. Talking to their partner about something that lasts longer than twelve seconds. Simultaneously, children pursue other goals: Pool. Bicycle. Building. Painting. Ball. Pool again. Something with a stick. Barbie now. No, Paw Patrol. Hunger. No hunger. PlayStation. Pool again. The solution is therefore not to turn children into small adults. That would also be decidedly boring. You simply give them enough opportunities to be children. And give the parents a lounger at a safe distance.

An employee of the WOW FINCA game center sits in a good mood in a huge high-rack warehouse full of toys, pool accessories, and children's equipment, talking on a red telephone. Behind him, other employees work between boxes and shelves. A sign lists pool & water, toys, strollers, travel cots, high chairs, and bicycles, among other things. Gassi's cry for help has been heard.

At this point, our story becomes economically questionable. Because we started collecting baby and children's equipment in Mallorca at WOW FINCA. First, sensibly: stroller, buggy, travel cot, high chair, child car seat, baby monitor. Then came bottle accessories, sterilizers, life jackets, and baby floats. After that, bicycles, pool packages, and toys. Then LEGO DUPLO, Playmobil, Schleich, Paw Patrol, and Barbie. At some point, a PlayStation 5 stood in the warehouse. No one can say exactly who made this decision anymore. In the meantime, you can simply rent the stuff for your Mallorca vacation and have it delivered to your finca. We have clearly lost control. For families, it is extremely practical.

Gassi runs away through the gate of a finca, chased by several children. Beside the path are already strollers, car seats, pool toys, swimming inflatables, balls, and other children's equipment. A WOW FINCA delivery van waits in the background. The supposed escape leads directly to the solution: more equipment for the children.

In the evening, the children are lying around everywhere. One on the sofa. One among the toys. One with that damn ball. The parents sit by the pool. Drinks cold. Mallorca warm. Peace. Finally. And then something completely illogical happens: after about three minutes, one of the adults stands up and checks on the children. Just like that. Straighten the blanket. Kiss a forehead. Pause for a moment. With that, Gassi's investigation is also concluded. Parents do not need a break from their children on vacation. They occasionally just need five meters of distance. Mallorca, a good finca – and, if necessary, an absurdly large warehouse full of toys – do the rest.

A black WOW FINCA SUV drives on a dusty road toward a group of cheering children. Behind the vehicle hangs a large trailer, loaded to an absurd height with bicycles, toys, swimming inflatables, pool noodles, balls, and children's vehicles. The scene stages the delivery of the children's and baby equipment like the arrival of a rescue squad.

The most beautiful beaches on Mallorca for children

For families, one thing matters most on the beach: water where you don't always have to watch exactly where the little ones are standing. These beaches are shallow, sandy, and child-friendly:

  • Playa de Muro and Playa de Alcúdia (North): Miles of fine sand and very shallow water. The classic choice for families with toddlers.
  • Port de Pollença (North): Protected bay with calm water and a promenade – ideal for first swimming attempts.
  • Sa Coma and Cala Millor (East): Wide sandy beaches with a gentle entry, not far from Porto Cristo.
  • Cala Mondragó (Southeast): Protected sandy bay in a natural park, quieter than the big beaches.
  • Es Trenc (South): Turquoise, shallow water and a natural beach. Little shade, so pack an umbrella.

Excursions with children in Mallorca

For the days when even the pool is no longer enough:

  • Coves del Drac in Porto Cristo: Dripstone caves with an underground lake, a short concert, and a boat trip. Pretty magical for children.
  • Palma Aquarium: Sharks, rays, and corals – perfect for a hot afternoon or one of the rare rainy days.
  • The train to Sóller: The historic wooden train runs from Palma through the mountains to Sóller, and continues with the old tram to the harbor.
  • Wildlife Parks: The Natura Parc in Santa Eugènia and the Safari-Zoo near Sa Coma are especially worthwhile for smaller children.
  • Water Parks: During the season, Aqualand near El Arenal or the Hidropark in Alcúdia, for example, provide a day full of slides.
