Hotel or Finca? The question sounds like a matter of taste. But it’s actually math. And a bit of psychology. By the third morning at the latest, when someone places their towel on “your” sun lounger at 7:12 a.m.
Both can be magnificent in Mallorca. It just depends on the person and the type of holiday. That’s why here is an honest comparison – with pros, cons, and the point where we admittedly become a little biased.
The quick answer
Hotel, if you are coming as a couple for a few days, love breakfast buffets, don't want a rental car, and want to sit directly on the promenade in the evenings.
Finca, if you are traveling as a group of six, ten, or as an entire family, staying for a week or longer, and value space, peace, and your own private pool more than room service.
Space: The difference you only understand once you're there
A good hotel room might be 30 square meters. A finca for eight people easily offers 250 square meters of living space – plus terraces, a garden, and a pool. That sounds like just a number. On holiday, it’s a feeling: some have breakfast at eight, others at eleven, and no one has to be quiet because of it.
“Plenty of space to be together. And perhaps even more importantly: plenty of space not to be.”
Price: Per room or per head?
A finca seems expensive at first glance because the price is for the entire house. If you divide it by the number of guests, it often looks different. With our fincas, the price, depending on the house and the season, is approx. €20 to around €125 per person per night – with your own pool, kitchen, garden, and multiple bathrooms. Compare that to hotel prices for the same travel period – especially for six people or more, the comparison is often surprising. And in a hotel, you share the pool with the rest of the complex.
Additionally, for both options, there is the Ecotasa, the Balearic tourist tax. With a finca, you also budget for food yourself – which, for a group that shops and cooks together, is usually cheaper than eating out three times a day. More figures can be found in our guide How much does a finca in Mallorca cost?
Privacy: Your pool. Your music. Your schedule.
In a hotel, you share the pool, loungers, breakfast room, and sometimes the wall with very talkative neighbors. In a finca, the property is yours. This means: children are allowed to be loud, adults too, and no one is watching if you decide at 4 p.m. that today is pajama day.
Service: This is where hotels had an advantage for a long time
Hotels clean, cook, make reservations, and are available 24 hours a day. With classic holiday home rentals, on the other hand, you get a key and a phone number that doesn’t answer on the weekend.
We wanted to eliminate exactly this difference. At WOW FINCA, you have personal contacts directly in Mallorca, around the clock. And through our WOW Concierge, we organize what you would order at the hotel front desk: fridge stocking before arrival, a private chef at the finca, baby equipment, yoga, a boat day, or a hair appointment. Finca freedom with hotel comfort – that is pretty much our concept.
Location: Where the hotel really scores
If you don’t want a rental car and want to go out for dinner on the beach promenade on foot every evening, you are often better off in a hotel in a coastal town. Many fincas are located in quiet, inland areas – that is their charm, but it usually means: a car.
There are exceptions. Casa Llum is located in the middle of the old town of Pollença, 200 meters from the main square. Villa Azul in Cala d’Or is 50 meters from the sea, and Villa Marie Sol in Cala Pi is about 300 meters away.
Groups and families: A clear victory for the finca
With six or more people, a hotel becomes complicated: multiple rooms spread across different hallways, breakfast in shifts, no communal place for the evening. In a finca, you sit at one large table, the children play in the garden, and anyone wanting some peace simply disappears to the other side of the property. For really large groups, there are houses like Finca Rotana for 16 guests or Finca Son Lluny for up to 32.
Our conclusion
For a short trip for two: by all means, a hotel. For a week with family or friends: a finca. And if you don't want to miss the service of a hotel: a finca with someone who takes care of things.

Frequently asked questions: Finca or hotel in Mallorca
Is a finca in Mallorca cheaper than a hotel?
Per person, often yes, especially for six or more guests and for a stay of a week. At WOW FINCA, prices range from approx. €20 to around €125 per person per night, depending on the house and season, including your own pool and kitchen.
Do you need a rental car for a finca?
Usually, yes, because many fincas are located quietly outside of towns. However, there are houses located in towns or directly by the sea where many things are within walking distance.
Is there service like in a hotel at a finca?
With classic holiday home rentals, usually not. At WOW FINCA, you have personal contacts on-site, 24/7 availability during your stay, and concierge services such as fridge stocking or a private chef.
For whom is a hotel in Mallorca better?
For couples on a short trip, for travelers without a rental car, and for anyone who finds a breakfast buffet, daily room cleaning, and a promenade on their doorstep more important than space and privacy.
